It starts out kind of small,
creeping in like a mouse.

Things, shiny and glittery,
appear in your house.

They bring out the message:

"It's that time of year!

Get out the holly!

Because
is here!"

New and vintage holiday decor items are arriving every day at YesterNook.  Great gift items too!

Black Friday

Some things to remember, if you go out shopping today:

You don't have to wait in line overnight to get special prices on special items at YesterNook.  We have them all the time.

You can find unique items at YesterNook that you won't find anywhere else.

You won't find unruly crowds at YesterNook, just a calm peaceful, environment.

We're always glad to see you at YesterNook!

By shopping at YesterNook, you are supporting not only a local business, but you are contributing to the economic life of a neighborhood.

Supporting a business like YesterNook means you also support the nearly 40 vendors who have space here.  These are all local folks, and some even live in the Schitzelburg/Germantown area.  They're just ordinary folks, like you and your family.  They might even be people you know.

The variety here cannot be beat!

Shopping at YesterNook is fun!  You never know what you'll find.

You can make a great day of it by adding a stop at one of the fine local restaurants on Goss Avenue!

Whether we see you on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday (which is tomorrow), or any other day during the holiday season, we do hope you'll stop in and see us.  Happy Holidays! Check out our Facebook page for pics of current merchandise, including tons of vintage Christmas decorations!  Also, be sure to read more information about YesterNook's participation in Small Business Saturday.

Celebrating

This is a busy week for most of us.  If we're not getting ready to travel, then we're getting ready to receive guests. Otherwise, we're making special grocery runs to gather supplies for our annual feasts.  Some of us are looking forward to the football games.  Others can't wait for the big parade.  Some of us will be surrounded by many family members at a large gathering, while others will have a small get-together for a few people.

If you find yourself running short on autumn-themed decor, or special dishes, or even Christmas decorations to put our after the meals is over, we have plenty of all of these at YesterNook.  Maybe you want to use a classic tablecloth this year.  Or you want an interesting vase or bowl for a centerpiece.  Can't find your pickle dish?  Want to decorate with vintage utensils?

With over thirty-five different vendors, there's a chance we may have what you need to make your Thanksgiving complete.  Stop in and check us out.  We're not that far from the Goss Avenue Kroger, so you can drop in YesterNook and still complete that run for cranberries and yams all in one trip!

If you have family or friends staying over the weekend, why not take them in to see your favorite store?  Maybe they'll find something special to take home with them.  We will close Wednesday, November 21st at 2:00 and return to regular hours on Friday. The store will be closed on Thursday to allow us the chance to celebrate with our families too. YesterNook is a great, relaxing place to do your Black Friday shopping.

When we are gathered around our tables giving thanks this year, you can bet that one of the things we're thankful for is all of the find friends and customers we have met through YesterNook.  Thanks for all your support throughout the year.  Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday.

Think Small!

Once again, YesterNook is participating in Small Business Saturday, which will be held on November 24 this year.  This is the Saturday after Black Friday, the largest shopping day of the year.

Please remember YesterNook and other small, local businesses this year as you do your holiday shopping.  Businesses like YesterNook give back to local economies by supporting and using local vendors and suppliers.  In addition, YesterNook supports nearly 40 local vendors, all of whom are also supporting the local economy.

We appreciate the support you give us throughout the year.  Please make us a part of your holiday shopping as well.  We look forward to seeing you on Small Business Saturday and throughout the holiday season on into the New Year.

Yes, It Is!

There's a new mantle display up in the entryway at YesterNook, once again courtesy of the talented Brad of Booth 3.  It's got a homey, comfy feel to it, which is so appropriate for a time of the year when we are all making plans to gather with family for a big meal.  It's kind of like gathering in grandmother's kitchen, except it's in the lobby of YesterNook.  Take a look.

So, what happens if you see something in the display that you'd like to buy?  It looks so good sitting there that you almost hate to disturb the display by taking it and making an empty spot.  Someone did work awfully hard on pulling it all together.  What should you do?

What if the item you want is hanging on the wall in the hallway?  Or in the restroom?  Or downstairs in the lounge?  Everything looks so nicely put together that you hate to disturb it and make more work for someone?  What should you do?

The answer is simple:  You carefully pick the item up, take it to the register, pay for it and take it home with you.  If it's got a price tag on it, it's for sale, even if it's in a display!  We don't mind that you buy things out of the displays, because we make them to catch your attention.  We'll find something else to put in that spot.  Don't worry about that.  We just want you to enjoy your purchase!

If you find you can't reach the item you want or otherwise need assistance, just ask for help.  We'll be glad to get something down for you or move it to the register so you can purchase it.  Just ask!

Remember, if it looks good in the store, it's going to look even better in your house.  Let us know how we can help you.

Have You Ever Noticed?

Have you ever noticed how nice YesterNook smells when you first walk in the door?

Patti and Sharron keep scented candles burning at the register, and they make the first floor smell so nice and inviting.  It's a little homey touch that kind of sets the stage for the YesterNook experience.  On those days when there's popcorn popping in the basement, you can smell it all over the store!

Have you ever noticed how great YesterNook sounds?

One day it will be Billie Holiday.  The next it might be Elvis.  Or Big Bands.  Or Love Songs.  It kind of fits in a store full of items from different eras to hear music from different eras. The music adds to your experience while shopping, but doesn't overpower you or try to make you hurry.  Many customers have complimented us on the music we play, which Patti's father records to CD from his vast album collection.

Have you ever noticed how much the store changes from week to week and even day to day?

Vendors (including Patti and Sharron) bring in new items all the time.  Some even come in two or three times a week.  New arrivals, combined with other items selling, mean that some areas are rearranged frequently.  They can look totally different every few days!   The large room called Hattie, across from the register, especially seems to change constantly.  The dinette set that sat in the middle of the room on Monday could be replaced by a bedroom suite by Wednesday.

Have you ever noticed how quickly that item you really wanted goes home with someone else?

A store like YesterNook has no set inventory, so that item you really like is the only one in the store.  There's not another one in storage in the back.  Even with around 40 vendors, all carrying different items, typically there's only one of most items in the store.  We can't tell you how many times someone has contacted the store to ask about something they saw a couple of days earlier, only to find that it had already sold.  Not to pressure anyone, but if you see it and you like it, you should consider getting it.

Have you ever noticed the really cool details in the building?

Seriously, this is one cool building.  The hardwood floors upstairs are really awesome!  And have you seen those arches all over the place?  The architecture seems to totally fit the nature and purpose of the store.

Have you ever really noticed that it might be time to visit YesterNook again?

If you haven't been in a while, it might be time to stop in and see what's new!  Holiday items are beginning to show up!  Plus, there's a ton of new furniture and stuff in the garage!

November News

Welcome to November, everyone!  The year is quickly winding down, isn't it?  Where does the time go?  It's getting cooler and the days are getting shorter.  The time changes tomorrow.  Soon, the outdoors will be cold and dreary, so you'll want to come inside YesterNook, where it's always warm and festive!

We've got three new vendors starting this month to add to that warmth.  Be sure to head upstairs next time you're in, so you can check them all out.  In the front half of Claude, new vendor Robin is in Booth 777.  That sure sounds like a lucky booth number to us, so you're sure to find a treasure there.  In Edna, in the closet area, you'll find Shelly and Lisa, who are starting Booth 93.  We'd like to extend a big YesterNook welcome to all of them and encourage everyone to check them out.  It means a lot to vendors to know that customers like visiting their booths.

Since everyone's thoughts are turning to the holidays, we'd like to go ahead and let you know the Thanksgiving hours for the store:

Wednesday, November 21, 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Thursday, November 22, CLOSED FOR THANKSGIVING
Friday, November 23, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

We'd like to ask that you remember YesterNook and all of your other favorite local businesses this year as you shop for the holidays.  We'll be returning to this theme a few times this month in the blog.

Don't forget to check out the store Facebook page, which updates constantly with pics of new merchandise!  Many vendors also post on Craigslist, so do a search for YesterNook there from time to time to see what's up!  We look forward to seeing you and serving you this month.
