Random Thoughts (Starring Fabulous YesterNook Merchandise)

Practically every piece of merchandise at YesterNook has enough personality to inspire at least one random thought or another.  Sometimes it's a memory.  Other times, it's just: "Wow!  I didn't know something this cool even existed."  Of course our favorite is when something makes you say:  "I gotta have this."  Here are some thoughts inspired by recent photos on our Facebook page.

Come to where the wild things are!
Come to YesterNook!

It doesn't matter what your mother said.
It's okay to put your feet on the table
when you're a fab piece of repro retro furniture!

Retro chairs travel in pairs!
(At YesterNook!)

Yes, quilts are a work of art worthy of being framed.

Did that table really used to be a door?
Yes, dear.  Yes it did.

You can try it yourself any time you want to come down.  Share your thoughts with us as well, either in comments here or on Facebook.  Remember, new items arrive practically every day, so if you haven't visited the store in a while, you're missing out!

Jewel Tea

The Jewel Tea Company was started in the late 1800's in the Chicago area by Frank Skiff.  His brother-in-law Frank Ross joined the business after the turn of the century,  In those days, coffee, tea, and other goods were sold door to door out of wagons.  Regular customers were rewarded for their business with premiums, such as china.

The famous "Jewel Tea Dishes" were manufactured by the Hall China Company.  The official pattern name is Autumn Leaf, although many collectors refer to it as "Jewel" or "Jewel Tea."  Even though the pattern is most associated with the Jewel Tea Company, it did not become exclusive for their premiums until 1933.

The Jewel Tea Company evolved into the Jewel-Osco chain of grocery stores, which today operates in the Chicago-area.  They discontinued their in home shopping in 1981.  Hall discontinued the Autumn Leaf line in 1975, although it still makes exclusive pieces in this pattern for the National Autumn Leaf Collectors Club.

The Autumn Leaf pattern remains popular today with collectors.  Many of them remember their mothers or grandmothers getting the dishes from the Jewel salesperson when he made his rounds.  The simplicity of the pattern and the pretty colors appeal to many collectors, as well.

From time to time, YesterNook vendors have pieces of Autumn Leaf for sale.  It never lasts very long!  It's just one more example of the many wonderful things you can find in our store!

July News

Happy July, everyone!  As usual, there is a lot going on at YesterNook that we would like to share with you.

First, we have to tell you that two of our long-time vendors and friends have left us.  Kendall and Marilyn were part of the store from the beginning, so it's a little hard to see them go.  We wish them well and know that you all do too.  However, their moving has led to a bit of a shuffle on the first floor.

Booth 511 has expanded to fill the whole space by the front windows.  They also still have a space upstairs in the ballroom.  Booth 459 is moving into Marilyn's old space, while 309 is expanding back into two spaces on first floor.  This means there will be lots of new stuff to check out in those rooms past the register when you walk in!

We'd also like to welcome Barbara (Booth 621) to the Ballroom upstairs.  We're glad that she has joined us.  Speaking of new people, another space just rented, so look for a new vendor in Edna in the next few days.

This is a big week in the life of our country, as we celebrate our most important national holiday, Independence Day.  YesterNook will be open on July 4, but only until about 3:00 p.m.  Stop by as you head out to Kroger to pick up stuff for your cook-out!  We'll be open regular hours (10 a.m. to 6 p.m.) on Friday, July 5.

Whatever you're doing this July 4, please stay safe.  Be careful with your sparklers.  Wear good sunscreen and drink plenty of water. We want to have you visit us for a long time to come!

Primitives!

YesterNook has been invaded
by a horde of Primitives!

They have swooped in out of nowhere
and taken over the garage!

These are the awesome kind of Primitives
that you don't often see out and about.

What do they want?

They've come to show off their low
YesterNook prices....

...and to find new homes.

Might one of them be yours?
Come check them out.  They won't last long!

Summertime!

Let's see...

We've had heat, humidity, and thunderstorms.  It must be summer in Louisville!

How is your summer going so far?  Do you have any plans?  Major trips?  Going to the beach?  Or Grandma's?

Don't worry.  Go have some fun.  We'll still be here waiting for your visit when you get back.  Don't forget to stop in and see us!  (If you want a nice gift to take to Grandma, stop in and see us before your trip.)

If you're hanging around town, remember that YesterNook has lots of things to make your summer more fun:  retro lawn chairs, classic toys, poolside reading, and much more!  If you're redecorating during the warm months, stop and see us for the best furniture prices anywhere!  And we still have a garage full of project ready stuff, if you are itching to slap a coat of paint on something.

We love it when our friends come to visit.  Please stop by.  We'll be here all summer.

Outdoor Sale Round Up!

According to YesterNook owner Patti Cape, the outdoor sale was a HUGE success.  Lots of people came.  There were about 30 people set up selling stuff.  Lots of stuff got sold.  Many new friends were made as some people came to the store for the first time.  There was food, fun, and a general feeling of welcome all the way around.

Of course, there was a lot of stuff for sale:

YesterNook vendor Stan sets up his area.
There were also LOTS of bargains.

This sofa went home with someone!

Many sellers had tables of items for a quarter!  Wow!
And there were lots of fun people, too.

Vendor Jody was all smiles all day!

Vendor Kathy handled the food sales.
You can see more pics of the day on our Facebook page.  There was certainly more than enough fun to go around!  Look for us to do it again in the fall.  Thanks to everyone who helped pull this together and to everyone who came.  It was awesome!  We appreciate every one of you!

June News

It's another new month at YesterNook, and that means it's time for news and updates!  Well, actually, it's a new month everywhere, not just at YesterNook, but that still means that we have some news from your favorite vintage/secondhand vendor establishment!

First off, a big welcome to Kim (Booth 303) who just opened up her space in Mayme's Ballroom upstairs.  She's our newest vendor and you'll want to check her space out.  Right now, she has an awesome selection of stuff from an old general store for sale!  She's located about halfway down in the ballroom on the right.  You'll know you're there when you see the puppet stage.  Yes, I said puppet stage!  Told you that you'd want to check her out.

The outside of the building is getting a beautiful facelift, courtesy of the talents of Larry from booth 511!  He's been landscaping and performing other beautification tasks for several weeks now, and the place looks lovely.  You'll want to stop by and see it in person, but you can also see photos on our Facebook page.

Some of your favorite vendors have moved to new spots or expanded their spaces.  If you can't find someone in their regular space, ask Patti or Sharron to show you where they are now.  They'll be glad to help.  Also, be sure to ask Patti about the "Hamster Happiness."

Finally, don't forget that Saturday is the day for our big, big Outdoor Sale!  You do not want to miss this one.  There are over 30 sellers participating!  All the spaces have been spoken for, so it will be a full house!  Several vendors will be selling things at drastic markdown, while many of our friends have decided to join us with spaces.  It looks to be a fun time for sure.  Who knows what you'll find?  We'll also have food for sale as well.

We know we'll see you on Saturday!
